Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on a worksheet comparing patrons and clients in Roman culture. We also reviewed worksheets for her upcoming test on Rome. She practiced her recitation of a poem for her English class, and for math homework, she created a practice problem and solved it."
"The student has a research paper due on the Renaissance in Florence. We revised her thesis, developed her main points, and worked on understanding the sources she had copied from a book at school. She was having a bit of trouble with some academic writing, so we worked on strategies for reading texts with unfamiliar words. She also had an article review about GMOs. We worked on understanding scientific writing and the importance of only saying what is supported by your sources."
"The student had a social studies test as well as a vocabulary quiz in science on Friday. His social studies material covered the early history of African empires and their significant cultural and economic contributions. The student had studied and reviewed this material extensively during class and felt very confident in his knowledge and understood the information well. In order to prepare for his test, we spent the first half of the session going over important terms, names and geography as well as reviewing the general chronology of the events covered in the chapter. The student's science class was studying an introduction to waves and their characteristics; prior to our session the student wrote flash cards with terms and definitions of all the highlighted terminology in his science textbook. We spent the remainder of this session reviewing his cards, discussing the most difficult and confusing terms until he was comfortable with all of the definitions."
