Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we focused on getting ready for the student's retake and test on Wednesday. We went over problems involving order of operations, exponent rules, and factoring with leading coefficient greater than 1, difference of squares, and difference of cubes. She still needs to work on memorizing the formulas for factoring difference of squares and difference of cubes. As we worked through a few, she quickly picked up on how to recognize which factoring method to use based on the type of problem given to her. Also, she is improving on her order of operation problems and exponent rules."
"First session with student. We got acquainted a little, talked about procedures and expectations, just kind of set the tone for our meetings. Worked mostly on angles, definitions and addition of angles in geometry, did some practice with irregular present tense verbs in Spanish, and went over vocabulary for an English quiz."
"We went over the two most recent worksheets from class. He was picking up the material well with practice. I made sure to make up extra examples if I felt he needed them. Was struggling with conversions at first but came through and did well at the end. Will continue working and review for test on Wednesday."
"Today we began with rounding numbers to the nearest ten and the nearest hundred. He understands this concept, and was able to relay information correctly back to me. He then read out loud for 20 minutes. He really enjoys reading and reads with confidence. At the end of the session, we went over subtraction flashcards that he completely conquered!"
"The student and I went over her test from last week. She was able to easily find her mistakes and fix them for the right answer. Then we moved on to inequalities which she learned this week. We did a lot of practice with changing the sign when you multiply or divide by a negative and paid a lot of attention to when the question says and or . Otherwise, she understood that all the other work is the same as when you have an equals sign. She said she felt like she understood everything a lot more."
"We reviewed for the student's exam and final exam. He understood the subject well, but was having some difficulties with doing sums algebraically and doing some integrals via substitution. He was able to by the end!"
"The student and I worked on homework covering family of functions, transformations and translations, vertical and horizontal shifts, stretches and shrinks and comparing the transformed function to the original function."
"We went through exponent rules, end behavior of graphs and polynomial roots. We are practicing for her Algebra placement test and I left her with 6 problems to cover. We will work on log rules, inequalities and plotting next."
"The student was very alert and ready to work. I can tell he is really gaining the concepts now to succeed. He is also remembering all of the process we have previously discussed much better now! We are almost done his packet and he said he is going to do some individual practice so I can take a look at his independent work."
"We reviewed multiplication and division. Then we worked on integers, adding and subtracting their movements on the number line and played a "track" game to reinforce. I introduced line coordinate geometry and he caught on very quickly. I assigned integer homework."
"The student and I reviewed most of the material we've covered up to this point. I gave him some trickier versions of problems that we've seen before and he handled them very well. I think he is making excellent progress. We also began discussing systems of equations and how to think about them, graph them, and solve them."
"We reviewed topics that the student was struggling on such as probabilities and factorizations. She did very well today and did not struggle nearly as much as before."
