Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent most of the time on math reviewing the more basic trig, logarithms, and equations then moving on to more difficult applications of those topics. He's quite relieved to know that we've gotten to the hardest material they could possibly give him. We also touched on reading where he's doing incredibly well given a bit more time, so we talked through some ways to cut the time down a bit more."
"The student and I went over his full practice test today. He scored a 33 on math and a 35 on reading (excellent). We also went through a full English section during our session today, and he answered 3 incorrectly (much better than the 7 from before). For homework, I asked him to finish the science section we started (we did 2 out of the 7 sections), as well as a full test."
"The student and I did ACT English and reading work today. We need to work on her speed with the questions, but her answers were mostly correct."
"Today, we went over math. Specifically, with math, we talked about the equations of perpendicular and parallel lines, midpoint formula, changing denominators when adding fractions, factoring, finding the domain of functions, and circles. The student had a little trouble with some of these problems, but we went over the harder ones together, and I think he has a good grasp on how to do these problems now. Outside of the session, I encourage the student to do some more ACT practice sections under the allotted amount of time and also some full tests to improve his test-taking endurance. Overall, this was a very productive session, and I look forward to the next one! Have a good week!!"
"Today, we worked on the math and science sections of the test. The student had completed multiple tests between the last session and now, so we reviewed the questions that he missed on 2 math and 2 science sections. His scores showed marked improvement since the beginning of study, and I hope to see further improvement. He seems to grasp the solutions to the missed questions; he just needs to be more careful when reading questions and choosing answers. Next time, we plan to work on the English and Reading sections. I assigned him a few of those sections to work on so that we can review them together next session."
"Today, we worked on the reading section of the ACT. We did an in depth analysis of content and strategies as well as practice on the above. We went through each passage style individually, what the questions of the ACT focuses on, as well as how to mark up the passage to maximize the student's reading capacity. We also did strategy tests on each passage to understand which strategies work best for her- we found the ones that work best for her, and she will be implementing them in her homework."
