Economics Tutoring review by Aidan in Orem, UT
Today, the student and I worked on the math and verbal reasoning sections. We went through and corrected some math problems that he had worked on. I noticed while doing so that he's made a definite improvement in his math skills and has been effectively studying the content with which he was struggling before. We devoted the remaining time to working on verbal reasoning practice problems.

Today, we went over questions from the student's practice exam pertaining to continuities and discontinuities, the Intermediate Value Theorem, and derivatives of ln() functions. She struggled the most with derivatives of ln() functions, but seemed to understand better with additional explanation. She also struggled with the chain rule pertaining to x^f(x) type of functions. We also went over antiderivatives with the chain rule, as a problem involving them appeared on the practice exam and she expressed that she had not seen them before.

The session went well. We went over his science test. He did alright on it, but it definitely needs more practice. For next time, he is going to finish the practice math test we worked on, and then do a practice math test to go over next session. If he has time, he should also do a practice reading and English test.

Economics Tutoring review by Vidhan in Orem, UT
I had my third tutoring session with the student today, and we covered ACT science. She mentioned that she wanted to improve her science score in particular, because she would like to pursue a career in a scientific field. She expressed having some trouble with interpreting graphs, so we reviewed how to read them. She was positive and hard-working throughout the session. As always, I would present a question, ask for her thought process, and then explain the solution. I also provided some tips on how to approach the science section. I recommended that she continue to practice at home under testing conditions.

The student and I finished our review of content for the English section. We finished up with run-on sentences, sentence fragments, and faulty modifiers. After learning about what each one is, we then reviewed how to spot them in passages & the various ways to fix them. Afterwards, we attempted the last 15 questions on the math practice test since those are the hardest. I assigned the rest of that test along with another practice test for her to apply the skills we've learned. I also suggested that she purchase the ACT prep book because those practice tests are created by the actual writers of the ACT and thus are the most accurate in terms of preparation.

We covered chapters 18 and 19 review packets--balancing redox reactions in acidic and basic solutions, oxidation numbers, general properties of redox reactions, galvanic cells, half lives and exponential decay, and nuclear chemistry. We will meet again tomorrow to review for the student's final exam in this class.
