What prompted you to seek economics tutoring?

Just spent the past hour and a half studying micro-economics with my tutor Patrick for my final in a couple hours. He showed great knowledge of the subject and saved my countless hours from trying to find the formulas and correct explanations for my troubling problems and confusions.

Fen made all the difference. My son who was panic stricken in preparing for an extremely difficult economics final was able to pass the course and graduate from NYU. Fen was not only incrdeiblly knowledgeable but was also an amazing tutor. Patient and able to find ways to help Ben commit the vast amount of information to memory. Varsity was wonderful in every way and we appreciate having had them to turn to.

Session Summaries by Economics Tutors

Economics Tutoring review by Elizabeth in Duval County, FL
The student needed to write the rough draft of the five-paragraph essay tonight. His teacher had given him a format to follow, but he needed to add quotes and details that would back up each topic sentence. He also needed to write an introduction and a conclusion. This was his first time to write a five-paragraph paper. He will have it evaluated by a student in his classroom tomorrow. We worked on this in this session. I also left him with a quick review of his Latin endings for the imperfect tense. He will be quizzed on this tomorrow. I also reminded him to bring his English grammar workbook home for us to check his exercises and review for his test on parts of the sentence.

Economics Tutoring review by Karen in Duval County, FL
Very productive meeting working old tests in preparation for the upcoming final exam. The student had some misconceptions using PEMDAS and distributing negative signs. We also reworked old word problems. Homework is to work the problems she did well on to ensure she remembers the strategies for the final. She had a great attitude and worked hard.

Economics Tutoring review by Kyle in Duval County, FL
During this session, we went over the verbal reasoning and quantitative reasoning sections of a practice test that the student had taken at home. He had scored equally well on both synonyms and sentence completion, but we talked about the few questions he had missed. Likewise, he did very well on quantitative reasoning. The things we learned how to do were change the base of an exponent, those weird problems little cube cutouts with pictures on them, and how to work with a series of numbers. We're slowly chipping away at all the different types of problems that the ISEE throws at you.

I went through a presentation regarding the formatting and successful strategies people use on the ACT. We also went over some questions the student struggled on with a practice test that he had taken. The main concepts he was struggling with were probability and trigonometry. We will review those in future sessions. Before our next session, he plans on taking ACT science and math practice tests.

Economics Tutoring review by Elnora in Duval County, FL
The students and I completed the review of remaining questions within their most recent homework set. The remaining questions primarily focused on an article related to externalities and government intervention. We were still in the process of reviewing additional questions because they have the opportunity to resubmit the homework twice and make corrections that may be needed.

Economics Tutoring review by Courtnay in Duval County, FL
Today we made up some stories based on pictures in the book. We also practiced using the past tense, and more complicated sentences with reversed word order. I'm not 'teaching' any grammar rules here, just having the student practice some of the structures.
