Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We finished looking at exponents and math and started looking at Algebra I. We also did more critical reading work."
"Before our collective session, one student and I met independently (to complete the second half of the "split" session I had started with her last week). We used this time to discuss essay strategy and to check in - on both an academic and mental level - about how she was feeling as she gears up for the test. I was happy to hear she was feeling quite confident but that she knows there is still room for improvement. In our group session, we continued working from the SAT study guide. We reviewed trouble spots from the most recent test they had completed. Recently, both girls have felt that they need the most help on the essay section, so we have been dedicating a large portion of time to that. We reviewed the essays they had each written for and then began to outline an essay altogether. Answering the question of whether or not "people should take more responsibility for the problems in their community and the nation at large," we generated a list of usable examples, chose 2-3 we wanted to focus on, and then began a detailed, line-by-line outline of a "6" SAT essay."
"Today, the student and I started by working on his essay, and he did very well. We then did a small reading section and some writing."
