"We reviewed one of the student's homework assignments. The object was to compare and contrast scientific techniques used one century ago with techniques that are used today. We worked on creating a claim for an argument that included supporting facts and details with reasoning behind it. I provided him with a little outline of what we have accomplished so far along with specific examples of facts and evidence that he needed to find in his text to support the claim. I also provided him with a few questions to answer in hopes that they will provide him with reasoning for his claim. After we went over his homework, he read a brief passage on the life of Abraham Lincoln with brief questions that followed to help him comprehend the work and organize it into a summary."
"During this session, we read various fiction and nonfiction texts focusing on different comprehension strategies. These strategies included determining the main idea, making predictions, coming up with an author's message and retelling important events and details in the proper sequence from the text. We will continue to work on and build on these strategies during our next session."
"The student read three C books and one D book. She takes her time with her reading, but her comprehension really shows while she is reading and after she is done reading. We also went over the new sight words and blends. Great job!"
"Asked student to create 10 comprehension questions from reading, making sure questions were asking for more than just a one word answer. Teacher also created 5 more in-depth questions used for student to practice voicing opinion and thinking critically. Read article about BB-8 from Star Wars. Began planning sheet for essay. Essay Topic: Create a robot for the movie Star Wars and explain where you would look for inspiration, the physical appearance and practicalities."
