"Today, when I met with the student, we covered the topics of partial differentiation and their applications to business. We also covered how to analyze functions using partial differentiation. He picked up the main concepts pretty quick, but seemed to struggle a bit with older concepts that needed to be refreshed, such as chain rule for derivatives. We went over that and how the partial derivatives are used to find maxima, minima, and saddle points, and in turn how that will relate to business. He seemed to understand just about everything by the end of the session. Overall, it was a very productive session."
"Today's session was a mad dash through as much of the student's review packet as we could tackle. The worksheets ended up being a summation of what must have been every topic covered over the course of the semester: domain, inverses, roots/ zeros, horizontal asymptotes, exponential functions, decay/ growth problems, logarithms and the algebra thereof, and at the end, all of the trigonometry we've been doing of late. We thanked each other for the fun experience, and I mentioned that I wouldn't mind knowing how things ended up for her. Her final took place less than two hours after we parted."
"Today's session was on interest rate and investments over x amount of years. The student needed help with the algebra component after setting up the formula, so we went over that in detail. He is a very optimistic student and an enthusiastic learner. I included some strategies that always helped me, and past students. His exam review will serve as extra practice for the remainder of the week."
"Today's session with the student was a review for the quiz she's going to have tomorrow. I explained to her how to use the unit circle and how to relate the values of the circle with the trigonometric functions. I also explained to her how to analyze a trigonometric function. At first, she was a little bit confused. After we solved some exercises together, she tried some exercises by herself. She solved them right, and I asked her to explain what she did. She told me exactly what is needed to get the right answer. Now, she has homework to memorize the trigonometric identities and the values of the unit circle."
"Tonight I helped the student practice AP calc problems for the first time. She needed some assistance figuring out how to adapt her existing knowledge to fit the unusual formats of the AP questions, but other than the few questions on concepts she hadn't studied yet, the assistance eased her confusion tremendously."
"Tonight I worked with this student to review for his upcoming retake test. He informed me his entire class performed poorly on the last test, and will have an opportunity to retake the test. Tonight we worked through his review on some limit problems and chain rule differentiation problems. We plan to work through the related rates problem next session, as this was the most difficult part, and will dedicate the entire session to that subject before his test at the end of next week."
