"The student and I went over his homework on scientific notation. He does turn in his homework, so I talked to him how important it is to check the answers to see if he is understanding how to do the concept. He had several wrong, so we were able to discuss how to fix them. The main issue he was having was not putting the first number between 1-10. He earned 100% on his first quiz and currently has a 100% in class. His first unit test is Thursday before we meet again. He did not have a study guide yet, but I gave him some suggestions on how to use his book and the odd number answers in the back to practice all the concepts and make sure he is answering them correctly. I also suggested he go over any study guides he gets with a classmate."
"The student and I went over his reflection for the first five chapters of the book he is reading. I asked open ended question in order to help him expand his thoughts. I also corrected grammar and punctuation. We went over more formal and proper ways of writing, rather than using spoken language in a written piece. Lastly, we went over online questions involving the comparison and relationship between fractions, decimals, and percentages. Mainly we focused on how to turn a fraction into a decimal by dividing the denominator into the denominator."
"The student and I went over multiplication today. We practiced tables 2 through 10. She really likes multiplication and puts a strong effort into it over other areas of math. We will be shortening her sessions in the future in order to achieve the most learning for her."
"The student and I went over proportions and relationships between two different variables. We worked on how to determine the relationships based on word problems, and solved relationships based on given data. We also worked on proportions using basic algebra, how to solve for x, and how to check the answer using the original equation. He seemed to understand very well by the end of our session. He was able to demonstrate to me that he was able to do these types of problems on his own with little guidance."
"The student and I went over solving for volume using two different formulas V=l x w x h or V= area of base x height. We practiced basic skills to keep her on top of things. We also practices our 8 times table and she did very well."
"The student and I went over the concepts of greatest common factor and least common multiple. She and I went over several of her homework problems involving these topics. We also discussed the definition of area and looked at some perfect squares. She continues to do well with her tutoring."
