Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a test tomorrow, so we reviewed derivatives using exercises from the review sheet he was provided with in class. He demonstrated clear understanding of the concepts covered, and, with a good night's sleep, he will be ready to get an excellent score tomorrow."
"The student has an exam tomorrow on derivatives, specifically the definition of a derivative, finding the equation of a tangent line, and taking derivatives using the power, and product and quotient rules. We went through his homework problems, and I sent him some extra problems with the answers for additional practice. He did very well and only made small algebra mistakes."
"The student has an upcoming quiz over the introductory Trigonometry topics. We went over how to convert between degrees and radians, and how to draw angles in standard position. He did very well with those topics, so we moved onto coterminal angles and arc lengths, which he also did well with. No concerns on my part!"
"The student has his SAT exam next Saturday. We spent the session going over a number of different practice exams. I gave him some time to do a few on his own, and then we went over them together. There are certain problems, especially those involving proportions and geometric figures, that he some issues with. We analyzed the problems and discussed strategies that could help solve them. I advised him to review the problems that we worked on and to continue to work on his own until the exam."
"The student has started to get into derivatives in her calculus class. We covered the limit definition of derivatives, and I drilled her on the various ways to think about derivatives and differentiation. She had a solid understanding of the material and did really well simplifying complex algebraic expressions. She could improve on identifying what the question is asking right away - it will give her the tools to check her work at the end of each problem. She had many problems in her textbook to review for her test this coming Friday. We decided to schedule an extra review session Thursday evening to iron out any last questions she had going into her first test. From what I have seen, she should feel confident going into this test, and I look forward to hearing about a solid first test grade!"
"The student is actually taking pre-calculus. We spent the entirety of our session on a single online homework assignment, most of which had to do with percentages, percent changes, and population growth. She demonstrated her understanding by answering subsequent questions completely accurately all on her own after the two of us walking through an example or two. We planned on meeting again. I anticipate that I will be able to do more instruction than."
