Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During today's session, the student and I reviewed summation of series. The topic that we covered was finding the sum of a series with given parameters. Also, we reviewed how to write the summation for a given series. He grasped the concepts that previously seemed confusing to him quite easily. We worked through each of the problems as I modeled and explained the process. He expressed that this session cleared up many of the areas of confusion with summations with series that he was experiencing."
"For this session, the student and I worked through a review of her online math assignment. The topic we looked at was how to add and subtract mixed numbers with like denominators. We discussed how to convert mixed numbers into improper fractions, how to separate mixed numbers into whole numbers and fractions, and how to manipulate equations to discover which statements are true/equivalent."
"For this session, we went over some questions that the student had from his final study guide, then went over the topics of optimization and related rates. His ability to solve optimization problems was already pretty good, but we did some practice problems anyway, and his understanding of these problems grew. His understanding of related rates was a little shaky, though. I showed him how to do these types of problems, then went through some practice problems with him. After going through some practice problems, his understanding of these problems and ability to solve them grew immensely. I believe he can solve these types of problems on his own now and that he will do well on his upcoming final."
"For this session, we worked on the problems in the student's study guide for this week. Some of the questions dealt with mean, median, mode, and range. She needed some support with these particular concepts, but for the most part, she was able to understand them on her own. We also discussed multiplying and dividing fractions as well as writing the prime-power factorization of a number. All in all, she seemed to understand many of the concepts."
"For this session, we worked through the student's homework assignment focusing on translating word problems into algebraic expressions. She had tried a few problems on her own using the block method, but it really wasn't working well for her, so I showed her how to set up the problem based on the known facts. She seemed to pick up on the new method and was able to complete the whole assignment."
"For tomorrow's final, the student and I did as much of a comprehensive review as we could. She has also done a lot of review problems on her own. We went over alpha/ beta problems, logarithms, rational function graphing, the remainder theorem, and series. She should do well on tomorrow's final."
