"The student and I covered solutions to quadratic equations with complex roots and evaluated expressions with complex numbers. We also briefly touched on logarithmic expressions and the quadratic function. His main difficulty was with some of the math operations with imaginary numbers, but mostly had no problems at all with his homework. He is very comfortable with solving quadratic equations. We spent the remainder of the time doing extra practice with complex numbers and the quadratic function. We also explored various topics that will be covered in pre-calculus."
"The student and I covered the topic scatter plots and lines of best fit when graphing points. We covered those topics using regular examples, and also using real world examples for him to get a better understanding negative, positive, and no correlation of the points. He had a very positive attitude. When he didn't understand a question or was a little confused about what I was asking, he made sure to ask me questions so he could understand it. I left him with extra practice. He is still doing work that is ahead of his class. He received an A on his most recent exam, and continues to do above average in class. I admire his desire to be ahead and learn material his class will not cover for the next few weeks. He loves learning and staying ahead, and that is a big win, from this session and past sessions."
"The student and I covered writing equations using the slope and two points. We also went over descriptive writing in an assignment for "Of Mice and Men." He improved his ability to add and subtract negative numbers, and is now able to find slope easily, which I was able to see with the practice problems I had him work on. He needed help coming up with descriptive sentences for his English assignment, so we brainstormed ideas to help him work more easily through this assignment. I gave him a study skill that seems useful for him, of taking occasional breaks when doing homework or studying for a test."
"The student and I discussed and covered imaginary numbers. I was concerned that this concept may have been too advanced for him, but he proved me wrong with his focus and brilliance! About midway through the session, the lightbulb went off! He was able to put it all together and make sense of the material. Plus, he was able to apply the concepts to the worksheet problems, which went from tough to difficult. I made sure he took notes and reviewed specific areas of the session when necessary, and he did the rest. He continues to impress me with his focus and relentless nature to improve his skills!"
"The student and I discussed arithmetic sequences. He did an excellent job going through the steps to solve a specific term in sequence, and applying the formula. We were able to go from the first term in a sequence to a higher term, and from a higher term in the sequence to the first term. He took solid notes, and if he applies his steps, he will readily solve any arithmetic sequence problems."
"The student and I discussed how to do circumcenter problems. He had trouble understanding what this concept is and how to draw it in a triangle. We also went over how this applies to a circle drawn around a triangle. The student and I also went over scientific notation. She seems to be in a rush to learn sometimes, but I try to be stern enough to get her focus back."
