Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This week the student and I looked over both her statistics homework and did some pre-calc. We talked about curve-fitting, both for straight lines and anything that can be log-reduced into a straight line. I think she left with a much better grasp of the terminology. We'll be planning one more session before her exam."
"We covered the FRQ's from the old exam non-calculator section. The student mainly had struggles remembering the intermediate value theorem and mean value theorem. His strength was solving differential equations. He also had some trouble with related rates. I left him to work on the old exam FRQ numbers questions 1 and 2."
"The student and I used online resources to review for the GED. She needed help with the concepts of percentages. We reviewed reading comprehension strategies for her reading and writing tests. She will be working on some basic math skills and building a strong foundation for her math ability."
"Today we covered problems from Chapter 5 Lessons 1-3 (identifying linear functions, finding intercepts, and finding/interpreting rates of change) and Chapter 5 Lessons 4-6 (slope formula, direct variation, and midpoint and distance formulas) for his quiz tomorrow."
"We covered multi-step inequalities with parenthesis. The student needed help to solve problems when they were written in a different arrangement than she was used to. I showed her how she can rearrange any problem to be in a form she is comfortable with. I asked her to complete a few problems for next class."
"Today when the student and I met, we started with his math review of an angle review that he needed for a quiz tomorrow. He needed to know that 90 degrees is complementary and 180 degrees is a supplementary angle. We went over his study guide and then I made a few more angle considerations for him to help him be sure. I was very impressed by his ability to figure out the other angles in the example. I believe that he is ready for his quiz. Then we study his vocabulary for his quiz tomorrow on the Lincoln book that they are currently reading. He was quizzed on each term and given several different answers. He did pretty well with term. After that we went over some of the government information that the class was studying. It was a pretty dry subject and he persevered. Lastly we read from the Nate Loud book and he did fairly well with it. I did talk with him about his week. It was a good day overall."
