"Today we finished up a problem on using generating functions to solve recurrence relations. Then we went over the inclusion-exclusion section, which was fairly simple, and the student understood it very well."
"Today the student and I worked on chapter 9: inequalities. He did well on these problems. Then we worked on some review problems which were rather abstract and challenging. The wording of some of these problems was not clear, but he seemed to be getting the concepts pretty easily. We briefly flipped through some of the old problems from chapters 6 and 7 just for review and he did well with these."
"The student had a take home test that we worked on together; he said that it was easy, but he didn't want to get any wrong. We worked through problems on factoring and finding zeros for several functions and systems of equations. He worked diligently and generally did well. He still needs to be careful when manipulating equations or expressions."
"Today we resumed our session from where we left off prior to break for both the student and I. We covered a few lessons from a while back, including adding and subtracting polynomials, as well as a few word problem examples involving rates and percentages. He did great. I included some practice work, and made sure that he goes and talks to his teachers regarding missing assignments that are negatively impacting his grade. He is continuing to hold above a 2.0, currently at a 2.3, and is showing promising results. I look forward to seeing his continued development."
"Today the student and I worked on more of her online math practice. This time it was about writing and working with different types of expressions. I was impressed with how focused she was. I could tell that she was really understanding the concepts we were working on. I think the parts of the practice we will continue with on Sunday will be more difficult, but I can already see that she is thinking about math in a much more organized fashion."
"We continued our work with sequences and series, this time focusing on how to decide on which convergence tests to use in which situations. We also did work finding the radius and intervals of convergence for power series. Most of our work came from past quiz and homework problems that she had difficulty with, and we plan to dive into the student's practice exam this weekend."
