Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This tutoring session consisted review of fractions (lcm, mixed numbers, and addicting/subtracting of fractions). We also reviewed over decimals. The expanded notation of fractions. The student did very well with this tutoring session. More review and practice is needed for decimals."
"Today I worked with the student and we went over addition, subtraction(introducing borrowing), and multiplication. We moved to the 11 and 12 tables in multiplication and she seems to be understanding that, but with a little practice, she will be able to memorize those tables in no time. We also introduced borrowing today. She still doesn't understand the reason behind borrowing but again with more time I believe she will have no problems with this material. She loves multiplication but as with most kids, she likes to stay in her comfort zone with material she is familiar with already. During our next session, we will continue to work on Borrowing and the 11 and 12 times tables."
"Today the student and I got to know each other and reviewed her long division homework. She worked very diligently. I would like to go back and practice her basic addition and subtraction facts. We're off to a great start!"
"Today the student and I got to know each other and worked on figuring out where she is with math so far. She said her biggest issue is with timed math sheets, and with subtraction and division. After some practice, it looks like she does have a few multiplication facts she isn't quite sure on, but mostly she doesn't seem to trust her mental math. If she writes it out completely she can do it (i.e. 9 x 3) but doesn't realize that she is capable of doing it in her head. With some practice, this will certainly increase her speed and confidence on timed math sheets. We also reviewed some fractions, percentages and area/perimeter. I introduced her to decimals and multiplying with percentages."
"Today the student and I started by going over her homework for the week. We did her English homework first, and she did well with that. She then worked on her math. She had a really hard time doing the 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication and the long division with remainders. We have decided that that will be our focus for the upcoming weeks."
"Today the student and I went over her homework and played a game. She had a homework question about writing an equation using a variable. We talked about variables and wrote the equation together. Then she had a question about rounding population numbers, so we worked on that together and she explained her work. Near the end, we played a math game using 2 dice. We added the two dice numbers together and recorded the sums on a 4-in-a-row grid until we got 4 in a row. She won! We had lots of fun."
