Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over both sets of vocabulary from Ch. 19. The student still has some trouble with the first set, but retains most of the second set. We also finished the rest of vocabulary from Ch. 19 in his workbook. He is doing very well and can grasp the grammar well."
"We spent a hour just reviewing tonight, because they didn't review the material we learned from the last time before today's session. Review is very important because without a good grasp of things we have already built, we can't move forward. I told them to do the homework for next time and review things we have already learned, and then we will be able to move faster. Today's new Q & A was: "what's today's date?" "today is..." and "you're welcome", the 3 new vocab for today were: moon/month, sun/day, mouth/exit/entrance."
"We had a dictation on Chapter 2 vocabulary to review all the vocabulary words that we went over two weeks ago. Then we had some listening exercise for Chapter 2 on the workbook. We also did speaking exercises and reading comprehension in the workbook."
"The students and I reviewed counting and numbers in Chinese. Student A did a great job and was able to count to ten by himself 80% of the time. He liked using cars to demonstrate the numbers. My goal is that he will be able to recognize the characters for 1-10. For the last twenty minutes or so of the session, Student B and C practiced writing the characters for 1-10 and practiced saying larger numbers. All in all, it was a great session. I look forward to next week!"
"The student has her chapter exam on Thursday. So we went over her chapter exercises and some dialog. I asked her to have a pop quiz and pick up five new words from her word list."
"We went over some tips the student's teacher wanted him to focus on. Specifically, we worked on some vocabulary that he's been taught before. Also, we reviewed some exercises from the workbook he uses for class. At the end of our session, we even had the opportunity to discuss our thoughts about the upcoming Celtics game (in Mandarin, of course)."
