"We went over a math homework packet on word problems, division, and tape diagrams. The student had 10 pages to complete. It can take at least 10 minutes to understand a new concept. Each page has a new concept to help her understand; then, we have to work the problems. My goal is for her to understand it well and feel comfortable doing the problems without a lot of assistance because she won't have much help in class."
"Completed the L3C3ComputerTester pure class assignment to create a virtual computer that keeps track of its serial number and allows files to be added to it resulting in available disk space to decrease."
"No surprise that her homework was nearly perfect and she aced her quiz with 100%. We're getting into difficult territory now, because she has learned so many concepts in such a short time that things are beginning to run together. Meanwhile, the university teachers are speaking at natural speed and using a naturally wide vocabulary, which may seem overwhelming right now. However, she is doing way better than I would expect any student to do, and I'm pretty sure listening comprehension will get easier shortly. There will be homework for next week as soon as I make some more practice problems. There will also be a kanji quiz, as usual."
"We went over electron configurations and how to remember the names of different elements. I explained items in terms of the periodic table and emphasized how important understanding the table is for her future studies. We also discussed the quiz that she had coming up."
"Student A was so excited to read his school book with me. His fluency and confidence has grown so much. He said he even likes school this year! After we read his book, he wanted to read our book together. We read for a full 45 minutes. He is on fire! Student B was just as excited to read with me today. He was actually able to stay focused for a full 30 minutes. He wanted to read his book that he chose from the school library, and then read we read our Bob book."
"The student and I went over his most recent full practice exam, which he did very well on: 33 in Math, English, and Reading! (He hasn't yet scored the science section.) We looked at the 5 questions he missed in the English section and determined that aside from a couple very tricky ones, they just boiled down to paying careful attention and not rushing. In the Math section, he only missed 3 problems, and one of them was just a bubbling error. The other two were tricky geometry problems. We went over a lot of related problems from my memory. We will look at Reading and Science on Wednesday. He is definitely on pace for a 33+ on the September ACT!"
