We started out by doing a quick bit of math review. Then, we moved on to the science section. Of all the sections, this seems to be the most difficult for her. We went over several practice problems and the strategies to answer the science questions. We worked through examples, with her implementing the strategies. We also talked about the opposing viewpoint question. Her homework is to do a full English section and several science problems. We're going to work on science for the next few sessions to bring it up to where math and English are at.

We started out going over your practice science test. Awesome job! We then covered a few science articles, going through them and picking apart information like we always do. We started reviewing Math today. Both students worked on 10-question sets from an ACT practice test. Topics covered included percent increase/decrease (6% increase means "multiply by 1.06"), arithmetic (common difference), geometric (common ratio) sequences, central angles of circle graphs, converting fractions to percents, solving proportions by cross multiplication or scaling both the numerator and denominator, solving linear inequalities, fixed and variable costs Strategies I included were the process of elimination and pacing for Math (20-20-20, to be adjusted depending on scores). For next session, they will take the English and Math tests from the official ACT prep book as timed practice tests.

We started the ACT Science test by going over Data Representation passages. The student struggled the most with finding information by skimming. The student's attitude was overall positive. I talked about strategies for approaching this type of passage and the types of questions found in them. I left the student with a practice test to complete the Data Representation passages of for homework.
