Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During our tutoring session this afternoon, our focus was on reading comprehension. Some passages were followed by multiple choice questions while others required short answers. He then read two stories about early female pilots. He wrote an essay comparing and contrasting the challenges both women faced. He needs to take his time gathering his thoughts and ideas. Before beginning his writing, I had him make an outline of his ideas. It seemed to help him stay focused on the specific topic."
"This session the student and I began with a quick review session for his Mythology test the following day. We then used the workbook, focusing on hyphens and parentheses and their appropriate uses. We concluded the session by talking about his upcoming writing assignment. We talked about his topic and how to structure the essay by having a main idea and creating subtopics for each paragraph to support that main idea. We also talked about how to structure his introduction and conclusion based on the content of the body paragraphs."
"We spent most of our time on grammar today. I was impressed with the student's command of complex sentences. He has more room for growth in his command of compound sentences. We wrapped-up our lesson by redoing a vocabulary assignment from school while also testing his command of sentence structures, and we examined use of a metaphor in his book club selection."
"The student worked on benchmarking for reading level H ( we will continue to work at this level). We then re-read her last story and took a 6-question assessment on the book. Finally, she worked on comparing and contrasting two texts on the similar topics."
"The student worked on completing work from the week, including writing an opinion essay, language arts, and reading. We reviewed and I helped coordinate work still to be completed. We discussed what she is currently doing in class, and will bring to next session materials for "Frindle.""
"The student worked on connecting his ideas together by using transitions and practicing prewriting techniques. He does well one on one with guided direction and is working on using the skills he has learned."
