"The student and I worked on her chemistry study guide in preparation for her test. We practiced drawing Lewis structures of atoms and ionic compounds. Then, we read sample passages from the reading section of the ACT, focusing on reading quickly. After each passage we discussed the main ideas and focus."
"The student and I went over 2 ACT sections: Math and Reading. I had him take practice tests from a ACT test book. He did half of the Reading section and the Math section."
"The student and I went through a practice reading section. The ACT requirements for the reading section are 35 minutes/40 questions. The student ended up taking much longer for the section, approximately 50 minutes or so. She did well overall and ended up getting many of the answers correct, but now we're going to focus on time management and how she can speed up her reading so that she can get a chance to at least look at all the questions. I suggested some strategies to her, such as reading the questions beforehand so that you know what you're looking for and then just skimming the passage, or reading just the specific parts and lines that the questions direct you to, as well as the intro and conclusion passages. We will work more on these strategies next session and determine which one the student is most comfortable with."
