Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, the student and I covered the intuition behind what the area under a curve represents and techniques for calculating such without using integration."
"We completed lessons 8-10 and plan to finish the unit review on Monday so the student feels confident and ready for the end of unit quiz."
"The student has a quiz tomorrow on angles of elevation and depression, bearings, and the Law of Sines (including the ambiguous case). We thoroughly reviewed all of this material through a worksheet provided by his teacher, focusing particularly on the new Law of Sines material and the bearing problems. I believe he is in a good place with this material for the quiz."
"Today, we completed the student's review for her upcoming test. We discovered the trick to solving the maximum and minimum x value for a quadratic function. Then, we worked through a complete SAT practice test, which the student excelled at."
"We began the session checking over an assignment involving adding vectors and bearings for errors. After identifying where the error was and correcting it, we moved on to preparing for an upcoming quiz dealing with the unit circle and radians. In particular, we discussed how to use the unit circle to calculate the values of all 6 trig functions for a given angle and how to find the reference angle of angles greater than 90 degrees. We ended the session discussing using a calculator to find inverse trig functions and, in particular, the fact that the calculator only gives an answer in two quadrants so some further calculations may be required to get the final answer."
"We reviewed some methods for solving problems involving logarithms and exponents, looked at graphs of the e^x function and the logarithm function, and talked about their domains and ranges. We did some problems of simplifying equations, and talked about converting from one log base to another. I felt like I wasn't really sure what type of problems the student needed to work on so we did a variety. He seems to have a good grasp of the ideas, and just needs more practice, so I provided resources for him to do so."
