"Went over properties of trapezoids, kites, and other quadrilaterals. Student was capable of the basic applications (identifying quadrilaterals, noting specific characteristics, etc.), but needed some assistance when algebraic integration was involved. I showed him a couple of examples and the easiest way to approach them. After our review, we went over a couple of problems together. He understood what he was doing, and was able to successfully answer the majority of his assigned problems. He takes a test on Wednesday."
"The student and I went over a lesson regarding calculating the volume of cones and pyramids given their dimensions, then worked through a set of problems from her text covering the material. She grasps the material at a fundamental level and is able to complete problems that require more complex critical thinking. We also reviewed an algebra lesson and completed several problems regarding isolation of a variable given a symbolic equation."
"I've noticed that while the student is understanding new concepts, she allows herself to forget basic formulas and methods used in topics we covered at the beginning of the month. I highly recommend that she do extra problems from her textbook and reinforce her memory of concepts she may understand, just may not have memorized. I'd like her to be able to confidently and promptly explain geometry formulas we've used. As of now, she still has to contemplate answers to herself before being sure about it. I plan to give her flashcards that will establish concepts in her memory. Other than that, she has been grasping the concepts of quadrilaterals very well."
"We went over the student's review questions which included topics like congruent triangles, angle and line geometry, proof of congruence and the Pythagorean theorem. She demonstrated her understanding of the concepts after scoring 100% on my 5-question classwork."
"This session was focused on the laws of sine and cosine, of which the student already largely had control. We reviewed how to use them to solve any triangle. We also discussed how the law of cosine is merely an extension of the Pythagorean theorem. He also told me that he has gone up three letter grades since we began working together, so we must be doing something right!"
"It was a great first session with the student. I was able to really see what he knew and what he struggles with. The sessions from here on out will be focused on preparing him for his final. He is a smart kid, and I am confident that, with a few more sessions, he will have all the tools he needs to be successful on his final."
