Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was our first session. After getting to know each other a bit and discussing the goals for the student, we worked on starting into advanced placement biology, chemistry and algebra."
"Today we reviewed part 1 in the student's summer packet. I instructed her on how to name ionic compounds, covalent compounds, and acids/bases, and we briefly discussed how to identify these types of compounds. I gave her a tool to help her memorize how to name polyatomic ions, and we practiced using this tool. She worked through a nomenclature worksheet that I brought for each type of compound before working through the problems in her packet. I helped her identify some ionic, covalent, and acid/base compounds in her packet, and then asked her to identify the rest. Next, we worked on using the solubility rules that her teacher provided to determine whether the ionic compounds were soluble or insoluble. Some of the compounds could not be determined using the rules that her teacher provided, so I looked them up in my textbook and we added to the solubility rules that she will need to memorize. Before we meet next time, she will need to work on memorizing the polyatomic ions and solubility rules. She also has an additional nomenclature worksheet that she can use to practice."
"We covered the student's lab and kinematics homework and prepared for his test. He is showing progress understanding fundamental physics equations."
