Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I met with the student for his 5th grade reading tutoring session, focusing on short stories and Poems and their interpretations and test answers, on the computer and on paper. As usual I will read first then pause while asking him to tell me in his own words what did he understand, when we go over his answer and all is carefully reviewed and understood. We then proceeded to the test found at the end of each short story or poem. He is doing very well with his tutoring assignments."
"This afternoon the student and I read the book My Little Pony: Ponies Love Pets. Despite having spent the day testing at school, she was able to focus on the book. With the more difficult words, she wrote them out on a separate sheet of paper and sounded out each syllable. This enabled her to read more challenging words like "alligator" and "sparkle". Overall, she has shown solid improvement over the course of our sessions."
"This was our first session. I received a copy of her progress report online to serve as a baseline. We covered coordinating conjunctions, word structure, and how to use both concepts when searching for contextual clues. The student approached her studies with a wonderful attitude, and she made some thought-provoking comments. She has a vocabulary tracker that I encouraged her to use while reading, and she was given a set of practice problems to guide her use of contextual clues."
"In this session, the student and I spent the first half of the session writing a detailed outline for his final English essay (a reflection on what he's learned this semester). We spent the second half of the session reviewing for his global change test today."
"We discussed the questions for the 2 remaining modules for the student's class. The first question had to do with whether he would wait until the annual review for a poor performing worker with a negative attitude or not. The second question had to do with the characteristics of the US that hinders emergency response. We are going to meet again on Friday to discuss his responses to these questions and to discuss his paper."
"For today's session, we worked on the student's math and English. For math, we worked on rewriting the standard form into point-intercept form and then finding the number of solutions through graphing and the slope. For English, we began working on his analytical essay."
