Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I reviewed polar functions again and also went over commonly asked questions regarding this topic. I then went over the various 3D and 2D shapes that are tested on the Level 2 and Level 1 tests, formulas that are given along with those which must be memorized, commonly asked question types, and strategies. We then went over various practice questions that represented the kinds of things the tests ask about. We also continued to review functions (linear and quadratic). Finally, I went over some general strategies considering how to effectively use the last week before the test to study and prepare."
"Today, the student and I reviewed all the different strategies we had come up with over the last few weeks. We also went over a few questions from each section as a quick review. After going over all sections, she and I decided that she needed one more session focusing only on math. We will meet one more time on Wednesday to go over math concepts and any last minute questions she has before she takes that SAT on Saturday!"
"Because this was our last session before the test I spent the time reviewing general test strategies, strategies for the verbal section and a few essential math concepts."
"We did a 3 question quant review. The student struggled with % but correctly answered Pythagoreum and slope questions. In Reading Comp, the student continues to improve in comprehension questions and has sharpened her eye for changes in the author's tone that help her to understand the primary focus of the passage. In Verbal, we reviewed 10 words from yesterday and discussed 10 new words from Verbal Diagnostic 1. The student recalled 9/10 definitions and appeared to benefit from a visual approach. We practiced a question on graphing functions."
"We did a bunch of vocabulary review, including talking about using sentences that truly show an understanding of the word, not just its part of speech. The student also performed well on a series of analogies, working on understanding the relationships (so using easier vocabulary) and the ways that the people writing the questions may try to trick her into selecting the wrong answer."
"We did preparatory test questions in the math section of the SSAT. We also went over test-taking skills and strategies. We also covered ratios and percentages in Math. The student was very prepared and did very well in the sections we went through. The student was very open and ready to learn. I think the student will do very well in the test and is already well prepared."
