"One of the areas that we covered was the listening skills again, then his oral interpretation of the material. We then covered rephrasing and reorganizing his thoughts without looking at the material. I then had him read the material out loud. I proceeded to ask him to tell me if he knew the meaning of what I understood to be new words for him. We worked on the new words until I felt comfortable that he could use the words in a sentence. I then tested him on the material to insure retention of the material. He received 100%. I then proceeded to show him how to enter the site of the material used and how to take a test on the computer. He will be taking computerized English exams in April. I wanted to begin giving him the experience of that type of exam after going through his English lesson."
"The student needed help writing a letter to his teacher about his latest reading adventures. We first read through 2 chapters of his book in 30 minutes, and then worked together to write a letter to his teacher. Although he understood the story's plot well, he needed a bit of help deciding which parts were the most important."
"We practiced rhetorical vocabulary, some critical reading and writing about critical reading, and worked on synonyms for overused words that she can employ in her writing. I left her an assignment to write a short report on her reading and to find more synonyms for typical words, to practice skills in researching using a thesaurus."
"We reviewed and fixed the student's homework. We reviewed letter sounds, and he only struggled with J. He practiced writing each upper and lowercase letter. He writes neatly when he takes his time. He finished reading his library book Squish. I believe his biggest difficulty is letter blends, which we will review in future sessions."
"During this session we worked on some of the student's workbook activities. She was focused and did well. We also practiced a little creative writing. Overall, the session went well."
"We did a little bit of everything today. The student read her book very nicely. We also did some math work and reading comprehension. Her reading comprehension is still not as strong, but part of that is because she doesn't always read through her options, but instead tries to pick out an answer right away. Additionally, I helped her study for her vocabulary test and she did an excellent job!"
