"The student and I went over the regular adjectives, adjectives that follow special patterns, and further practice with possessive adjectives. He picked up the different arrangement with the adjectives flawlessly, and we used things like famous actresses to remember words. When practicing, he did an excellent job on remembering past constructions like the demonstrative adjectives and conjugating verbs. He did a very nice job on pronunciation. We went into detail about the different uses of savoir and connaitre, and we did a few activities from the French review book. We also did activities with the imperfect in this book, and his work was spot on. With the adjectives with special patterns, we used things like visualizing how we organized the different forms of the adjectives on paper to organize our thoughts, and we also remembered the cognate "active" to help remember the changes with adjectives ending with "f" (in the masculine form). He used these strategies very well as we practiced with sentences as well as answering questions orally. I was impressed at how quick and efficiently he was picking up what we've been going over, and I'm excited to see how well he does on a quiz or test."
"In this session, I introduced the student to imparfait verbs. He showed a greater interest in this particular verb. He mentioned to me that he got a B on his last French test, which shows improvement."
"We finished last week's text and started a new passage. This was the first passage the student read and to which he answered the question on his own."
"We had a productive session. We finished chapter 7 recently with a vocabulary quiz on which the student scored well. We began chapter 8, which provides something of a pause for solidifying the nominative and accusative cases of declensions 1-3, and the present, imperfect, and perfect tenses of conjugations 1-4. He translated the introductory captions well, though he should always verify whether nouns are singular or plural in form. We looked at some online exercises for grouping nouns by case and number. We also previewed the superlative forms of adjectives using a short exercise from the textbook. He continues to progress very well."
"This was a particularly excellent session with both students. We started with a quiz on all of the vocabulary words and phrases that they have been practicing. It was helpful for me to get a realistic picture of their progress over the last few weeks. We corrected their quizzes, which they both chose to keep in order to study over the week. We will start the next session with an almost identical quiz, and I expect them each to receive 100%. Student A and I learned a song to memorize the days of the week, and Student B solidified his understanding of "avoir," an essential verb structure that I believe will help him as we continue to practice verb conjugation in the coming weeks."
"We began with a reading for improvement in pronunciation. She is interested in pursuing a career in medicine, so we then focused our conversation around the medical profession. I then asked her to ask me some questions, as she also has struggled with how to formulate questions in French. As always, I see improvement in her ability for formulate sentences and improvement in pronunciation. And as always, it is a pleasure to work with her."
