Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student scored a 1410 in total on the test. She did very well, especially for her first time. She knows most of the material, but the clock and certain specific question types are what she needs to work on. She did not enjoy the essay section and had some trouble with it, so I assigned her an essay and some other sections for next time."
"The student and I covered math and reading today. We still need to work on some concepts in math, but overall, she seems to understand the problems once we work through them. She did pretty well in the reading. She seems to understand how to find the main idea fairly well, we just need to focus on active reading."
"The student and I got back to working hard on the SAT math material tonight. We covered a very large number of problems, and she was extremely focused throughout the session. We did problems on exponents, domain and range, inverse functions, interpretations of linear equations, line slopes, distances, triangles, circles, and 3-dimensional objects. The last 10 minutes or so, we discussed some test taking ideas and some areas that she might focus her last minute studying on. We are meeting again on Friday afternoon and plan to just keep churning through as many practice problems as we can. I will again try to give her a wide variety. I do think that she has strong mathematical fundamentals. For instance, she rarely makes algebraic errors, but she sometimes has trouble knowing how to set up a problem. We will keep getting her as much practice as we can before the exam. I'm extremely happy to have had her as a student."
"The student and I worked on reading comprehension using longer passages. He was able to independently read and highlight important information in the passage. He was also able to answer all of the questions accurately. He is getting much better at thinking about what he is reading, making inferences, and understanding figurative language. In math, we worked on comparing improper fractions that equaled more than one. After a bit of practice, he was able to solve these problems independently, and even asked if he could go on and solve the problems himself. For extra practice, he was asked to complete a math and a reading worksheet independently."
"The student and I worked tonight on many things, and he's really beginning to put together a lot of the strategies and materials that we have discussed. I talked with him about that and let him know that I think he's doing an excellent job and that we had a really good session tonight. Content-wise he is doing well, and that bodes well for his upcoming test."
"Today was spent covering math topics exclusively. We began with a review of the student's results on the practice exams he had taken since our last session. The problems he faced on that test were mostly related to the concepts of functions and quadratic formula usage. Based off of these results, we spent the rest of the session working on practice questions relating to those concepts."
