Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Went through a variety of vector and 3D-graphing review (vector components, determining direction, solving airplane/boat heading problems, projections, dot and cross product intuition, area of parallelograms / triangles, force equilibrium, graphing 3D points, sphere equations + determining center and radius, sphere slices and related application problems). The student became more comfortable with quickly calculating horiz/vert components and using the resultant vector to better realize application-type problems. Everything else she has pretty much down pat."
"The student and I continued working on sequences tonight, this time adding in the limit test for convergence or divergence. The student had no real trouble understanding the new concept."
"I taught the student strategies for proving trigonometric identities and solving equations involving trigonometric functions. He had a solid foundation in the previous material and learned quickly. We also reviewed some algebraic concepts such as factoring and exponents."
"During this session, the student and I reviewed his pre-calculus material for his exam on Wednesday. We went over functions, how to identify even and odd functions, scaling functions, compressing functions, expanding functions, and other function manipulations."
"The student said he was behind and needed help to get through his finals when we began. We began by covering limits, infinity limits, and L'Hopital's rule. He started out pretty "green", but quickly made progress in understanding how to evaluate and analyze limits and continuity. We will meet 4 times in the coming weeks to knock out his 100-question review so he can be ready for his final. I have no doubts he can really improve his confidence and overall grade."
"Tonight we covered finding the unit vector in the direction of a given vector, as well as finding the direction angle of a vector and angle between vectors. The student was very motivated to learn. From there, she was able to work through every type of problem she had in her homework. She was able to easily take to the more difficult problems with ease. Also, being able to compare a vector's magnitude to the hypotenuse of a right triangle seemed to help make things more clear. She used formulas, reviewed examples, and checked answers to homework problems to make sure she was performing the problems correctly. Her excellent note-taking was very valuable to our session. She will be taking her test tomorrow and we will have our first Tuesday meeting next week."
