Doral, FL German tutoring
The student and I had an excellent lesson this afternoon. We began by using the felt cut-outs to review prepositions. We took turns giving commands regarding where to place different felt squares, circles and triangles - between, under, on top of, inside of - larger geometric shapes. Next, I presented ten new action verbs using pictures on flashcards. I chose not to list the verb in the infinitive form, as it would normally appear in a textbook. Instead, I conjugated the verb for the first person singular "I" form. In French, the pronunciation of the first person singular remains the same for the second and third persons singular as well as for the third person plural. In that way, while he was learning the "je" form, he was also learning to pronounce the forms for "tu/il/elle/ils/elles." We practiced with the flashcards and then played charades, taking turns acting out one of the verbs. Finally, I had put together a storybook, with him as the main character involved in many different activities. Each activity used one of the verbs we had just practiced as well as previously learned vocabulary. I chose to cover the text of the storybook underneath a paper flap. In this way, he could describe what was pictured on the page and then look at the text afterwards. In the course of our tutoring, I've made many storybooks, which he and his mother re-read in the evenings. With this week's storybook, he would be able to "read" the book to his mother. She could lift the paper flap and see the printed text to make sure he was using the verb phrases correctly. We used the last five minutes of our tutoring time to read one of the French storybooks from his personal collection. Overall, this was a great lesson. I feel confident that I will continue to introduce new verbs in the next few lessons.

We reviewed vocabulary concerning one's daily routine and the passe compose. The student has a great attitude. I left the student with some practice on the past tense in French (le passe compose). The student struggled most with pronouncing consonants. I gave the student an acronym to remember some subject matter.

The student and I had a great session! We went over practicing letters, in particular the letter "A", both upper and lower case, and pointing out pictures that begin with the letter "a". We also did some basic addition using pictures and the student answered in both French and English. Everyday I see new improvement with the student, she is incredibly intelligent for her age and learns both French and English very quickly. After we went over letters and adding, we read and looked through the rest of a book that I gave her called "Rainbow Fish" and we were able to talk about the different fish and their sizes and colors in both languages. She is doing an excellent job, and is always very willing to work because I am able to make it fun for her!
