Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, we reviewed more homework problems in the student's business calculus course. We went through exponentials and logarithms and understanding functions concerning compounding interest. He felt pretty comfortable with the material."
"In preparation for the student's mathematics placement exam, we worked through problems from algebra, trigonometry and precalculus. This included factoring, simplifying rational functions, composition of functions, properties of exponents, and rationalizing denominators. Along the way, I made sure to review any algebra fundamentals and rules to strengthen her command over these techniques. She had a strong understanding of all of this material by the end of the session, though additional practice problems will definitely help. For next week's session, I encouraged her to work through the remaining algebra and precalculus sample test problems, referring to the resources provided on her university's website as needed. We'll work through any questions that she found challenging next time."
"In this session, the student continued to work through his summer math packet. We covered logarithms and exponential equations and some algebra topics that involved variable isolation. He did well with the material we covered. He needed to be reminded of some logarithm properties, but was recalling a lot of the ideas on how own. He does very well with algebra, and that section wasn't much of an issue for him. We were able to wrap up the section on determining asymptotes of rational functions, as well. We have a few sections on inverse trigonometry left to cover, and properties of conics. We should be able to finish up the packet next session, so we can begin some calculus introduction."
"In this session, we completed a final review for the final exam. At the beginning of the session, we completed the final that we had gone over on Tuesday, which was the calculator portion of the exam. The student was very comfortable with using the calculator. The rest of the session was spent focusing on subjects that she had struggled with historically. As such, we went over word problems related to average cost and revenue, as well as optimization problems. She seems prepared for the final."
"In this session, we covered some usage of the TI 84, inverse functions and intercepts, and equations of lines. The student had struggles with inverse functions, so we spent a good deal of time working on those. A strategy and study skill I think will be helpful is to be thorough and write things out. I'll also be sending him practice problems to review what we learned."
"In this tutoring session, we continued to focus on kinematics in 2-D. We discussed and work through five problems. The problems focused on relative motion and converting between linear and angular motion."
