Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Before today's session, the student completed another ACT practice exam. We reviewed the exam and marked the questions that were answered incorrectly. On this exam, she only missed a few Math section questions and her Reading and Science scores continue to improve. She missed the most questions in the English section. After reviewing the correct answers for the entire test, we focused on the English section. We reviewed one passage at a time and talked about the types of questions that appear in this section."
"In today's session we began with logical reasoning. I showed the student a strategy for solving sequence problems that involved multiple elements. She seemed to grasp the strategy very quickly. In addition, we completed reading comprehension passages as well as scrambled paragraphs. I suggested that she review some of the strategies discussed in one of the test prep books, and reminded her of the importance of transition clues for the scrambled paragraphs. For reading comprehension, I suggested that she review organizational structure (as presented in the book) in order to help her grasp a better sense of the author's purpose, which will help her answer questions correctly. The last part of the session, we worked on various math topics. We discussed strategies for eliminating answers as well as how to approach a problem that she is sure will take a long time. She is doing well in all areas."
"We began our session by discussing how the student did on her practice test that she took over the week. She completed the reading section, the section she most wanted to improve on. The results from this test were very promising. She did 5 points better than on the previous test she took, and it was apparent that she did better on the exam as she went further along; suggesting that she was still getting used to the methods we talked about in our last session, and that she could potentially do even better with the added practice. We then went over, in detail, the test she took, answering any questions she got wrong and discussing some final pointers for this section. We finally turned our attention to the science section to discuss some strategies for taking this portion and doing some practice problems. Overall, I think she is poised to perform significantly better than her last exam."
