"Today we wrapped up the listening exercises for Lesson 16 and did a short quiz before diving into the Unit 5 test. We did not quite finish the test, but the student has been doing very well with only a few minor errors. She consistently tries to push herself, which makes for a much richer learning experience. Next week we will finish the unit test and move on to Unit 6!"
"Last night was a great study session. The student filled me in on the "pop-up quiz" they had in class last week. We reviewed what he could remember having trouble with (they hadn't gotten them back yet). One of the biggest areas was maison d'etre. He finished making his flashcards for both maison d'etre and the list of irregular verbs his teacher had given the class. We then went through and talked through them, as well as did some activities using them in context and in terms of creating sentences. We are planning on discussing these verbs again in two weeks but going into depth with their context and the different ways they are used in the French language. There is some fabulous progress being made, and as long as he is willing to spend time, I am sure it will continue. He knows that it is his responsibility to go through flashcards and practice during the week."
"I met the student tonight for our first session. We reviewed her homework for Wednesday. I told her the assignment for our next session is to make vocabulary flashcards for chapter 6 and to review them. We read also all questions aloud to get her talking with a few corrections on pronunciation. We had time to review part of her homework for her class Friday. It was a very productive session. After she'd answered a particular question, I would ask her about verb conjugations and adjective agreement. I'd then change an aspect of the sentence to get her actively conjugating verbs and to be attentive to agreement. I think she got a lot out of the session. Knowing her weakness in the course, one of my goals (in addition to helping her learn vocabulary and grammar) is to build up her confidence up. She was able to answer most of my questions so I think we're on a good path."
