Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We used this session to review for the student's first test. He had a set of study materials so we went through them, making sure he was comfortable with the material. We spent some time hammering out the nuances of small things like when accent marks are necessary when going from singular to plural. We also made sure that his vocabulary was up to scratch and improving by going over difficult words and phrases on his review sheet. He did very well on the review sheet and was able to quickly apply my pointers to some more practice questions. Topics covered included numbers, definite articles, indefinite articles, gender, singular and plural, and regular verb conjugations."
"I reviewed animals and colors with Student 1; Student 2 learned several new words and practiced her spelling, as well beginning to learn the "to be" verb tense."
"Covered new vocab on activities and food, while practicing the verbs gustar, querer y poder. Working on oral skills."
"Today we did a good review of the concepts learned in the last class. She needs more practice with to be and to have verbs. As a new themes we studied some prepositions with many exercises and examples and more everyday vocabulary. She has a very good accent in Spanish and is eager to learn the new language making the learning process easier for her."
"Today we did a lot of review and practice with the preterite (past) tense. We started out with the conjugations with some of the more frequently used verbs, and both verbs with irregular and regular conjugations. I then introduced some new verbs and we did some listening practice. I did a short dialogue in the preterite tense about what I did this morning and afterwards the student told me what he heard and understood from the dialogue. We did some review/practice with reflexive verbs in the preterite tense, and then did another dialogue in the preterite tense about what I did the rest of the day. The second dialogue was a little more difficult, but we broke it down little by little. He is doing a great job and has come a long ways from where he started! "
"Today we focused on translating. We started by taking short fables, Aesop's Fables, and translating them from English to Spanish. The student did a wonderful job translating the fables even when new vocabulary words were introduced. I have noticed that in translating, she can sometimes complicate the words. My suggestion is always to simplify. We translated a couple of fables. I asked her to explain to me her day and use that as a starting point for a conversation. We spent the last half hour working on some documents for work. Again, my main suggestion is to simplify as much as possible when explaining complicated ideas. Using examples will make everything so much easier."
