Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I instructed the student to get one of the ACT prep books this week and start reviewing some of the things we have already been covering as far as math goes. On the week of the 12th, he will be taking a full practice test so it will be good to have the book by next weekend. The test is now 5 weeks away and we have set the schedule to prepare for that time frame. Our next tutoring session will be on Sunday the 13th at 11 AM."
"Student is showing great improvement, and made an 80 on his last test. We went over his homework, which was proving congruence using postulates such as Side-Side-Side, Side-Angle-Side, Angle-Side-Angle, and Angle-Angle-Side. Also reviewed properties of angles formed by a transversal through parallel lines and vertical angles theorem."
"We discussed cardiology physiology, such as graphs for cardiac output, venous return, and cardiac cycle. Also discussed the physiological events during a hemorrhage. The student is very smart and picking up the material very well, and should be able to master the material."
"Looked at some math problems a little bit harder than she'll see on the assessment test to see how she handles challenging material, and how she approaches novel problems. The student handled the material very well."
"The student had physics and pre calculus assignment as well as a quiz/exam tomorrow. We did those assignments and reviewed for the quiz/exam. We did slope, calculation, slope use to find the equation of a line, and slope to use the equation of a parallel and perpendicular line. We covered multiple function: parabolic, absolute value function, and square root function. Felt like the student was adequately prepared to do well on this quiz/exam.
"Began treating topics in the review text for the student's mathematics exam. We will be taking a two-pronged approach, working on both weak topics within this text as well as the work the student is doing. Additionally, during the coming months, we will be using example exams to gauge strengths and weaknesses. Today, we covered basic terminological concepts from the first chapter. We also began working on review of factoring-related concepts. And lastly addressed some very basic approaches in mathematics, trying to begin to train the student to approach problems in order to understand them, not merely apply methods."
"We began our session by going over the student's assigned essay for homework. She had a good set up but needed to work on drawing in the reader, so she rewrote the essay as we broke it down into parts. We went through different ways to draw in the reader by spicing up the very first sentence, and we also worked on using imagery and unconventional ideas to keep the reader interested. The student did an amazing job in her second essay; it was spectacular! We finished up our session by working on her algebra skills."
"Today I met with both students. Student 1 and I reviewed a few topics for her biology final exam, (cell organelles, mitosis, osmosis and diffusion, passive transport vs active transport, chromosomes, cancer, and a few others). Afterwards student 2 and I worked for just about 15-20 minutes to complete that day's homework, although we will start remediating his math skills in upcoming sessions."
"I walked the student through how to find all possible zeros in a polynomial equation. We went over a test he had just received. Lastly, I gave him a webpage that has tips to writing his college application essay so he can work on it today before I arrive to tutor him."
"The student and I reviewed for his Chemistry test to be held the next day. We spent a significant amount of time working through problems and making sure he understood the equations. We also reviewed conversions, point of vaporization, and the mol volume ratios."
"Practiced translating from Spanish to English and vice versa in preparation for a writing exam tomorrow. Not sure of what the prompt will be, so we practiced translating 2 paragraphs combining vocabulary and verbs from both chapters so far in the textbook."
"Again we did a reading comprehension exercise and a critical reading exercise about photography. The second one had some difficult questions that she had to answer. I think practicing critical reading is a good idea."
