The student and I played a new game I made to practice blending 3 letter words. She did ok, but still seems to get stuck on the vowel sounds, sometimes substituting one for another. We reread the book and used some word cards to make some of the sentences from the book. She read the book pretty well, at an instructional level. We then read a new book and did some word work with magnetic letters. She read it fairly well. She did have a good attitude today!

I made a flip book with word beginnings (like gl and br) and endings (like ace and oast) to create real and nonsense words. The student read them all very well. I think the flipbook helped because it wasn't a completely new word each time. I would keep the same ending and just change the beginning a few times before moving on to the next ending. We also worked on sounding out SAT words and read a book review and the first 2 pages of "Frankenstein."

Student A: I covered sight word practice, writing sentences with sight words, and working on more correct spelling. We finished up with phonics worksheets on various words. Student B: We covered non-fiction reading along with main idea/supporting details. We finished with reading a short story from my phonics workbook, which he was able to read almost 100% perfectly.

I started the session quizzing the student on her short vowel sounds and she did pretty well. She struggles a little with short e and i. We worked hard with the visualization and pronunciation of words - beginning with sounding each letter then saying them faster as one word.
