During today's session, we went over the student's recent test. This exam was a review of many topics. We did one problem that involved finding the volume of a solid whose base is a certain area on the coordinate plane. We went over this, and he is able to follow the steps to complete the problem once he understands exactly what the volume looks like. Another problem asked for the antiderivative of a function. We spent most of the time clarifying a short response problem that involved net rate of change. He now knows that when given a rate of change, this is essentially the same as being given a first derivative. We went over how the units of a function are a big hint to the meaning of the function. Specifically, we discussed how when a quantity is given per unit time it is a rate of change and first derivative.
