Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I did some more worksheets working on the short /i/ sound and sounding out words. She also read out loud to me from her book. She and I prepared for her comprehension test and worked on some math problems. Both the girls had great sessions today!"
"The student and I have been focusing almost entirely on getting ready for the exam, since it will be administered next week. We reviewed her homework and then I assigned more prep for homework. She is still improving upon her focus as well as using evidence to support her responses."
"We read poetry and talked about using senses to find figurative language. I suggested using the 5 senses to describe text to help comprehension. He will read chapter 2 of The Three Musketeers. The student made self-to-self connections and self-to-world connections - it was wonderful!!"
"We covered reading comprehension at the 5th grade level. The student struggled most with the concept of adding suffixes to change nouns into adjectives and verbs into nouns. She will be practicing this as homework, on top of reading three chapters of Blubber and underlining new words. We also practiced comparing fractions and visualizing them as pies."
"The emphasis this session was reading fluency and reading comprehension. The student was presented with a longer passage. We used echo reading to improve fluency. The student scored 6/6 on multiple choice reading comprehension questions. We also practiced reading a list of words in one breath to improve fluency. Lastly, the student did well on a telling time review assignment, which included some word problems."
"Discussed reading comprehension, test taking strategies and avoiding common cognitive errors when reading. The student is reading several chapters of a novel before our next session, where we will focus on assessment questions related to the novel in the areas where he is struggling (authors purpose, main idea etc.)."
