Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I tackled a practice verbal section and spent the majority of our time focusing deeply on 2-blank and 3-blank vocabulary questions. In addition to more work in detecting definitions through etymologies, we examined the structure and punctuation of certain sentences in order to attain more clues in answering difficult questions. We also focused on implication and inference in reading questions that allowed for multiple answers in considerable depth, which allowed her to reason through passages in a conversational manner and arrive at correct answers. The principal challenge in our work today was narrowing down plausible answers in multiple-answer questions. It is often difficult even for the most astute reader to sometimes answer the deliberately confusing questions, so I stressed that she re-read passages and try to define as precisely as possible the scope of texts."
"I met with the student for our final session before she takes the GRE. During this session we reviewed a practice test and discussed test strategies."
"We studied vocabulary, reading comprehension, test-taking tools, and using context clues to eliminate answers or determine the best type of answer. We also worked on re-writing questions to improve comprehension."
