Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I chatted in French about our week, particularly focusing on using the past tense. Then we went through the homework that he had done on the passe compose. For the last half hour we did some activities in the book on placing orders in stores. For homework, he is going to write a ten-sentence story about a memorable day in his past using the passe compose."
"Today we finished the listening exercises for Lesson 15 and did a short quiz. The student did very well, as usual. We then moved on to Lesson 16 and made it through the whole lesson in the textbook, along with the corresponding exercises. For next time, I will check the student's written exercises from the workbook for Lesson 16 and we will do the listening exercises. We will then do a test on Unit 5."
"Last night we expanded on the material from the previous week and introduced some new material. We are working with family and possessive adjectives. Toward the end of our session, the students were asked a series of oral questions about their family. They both were able to respond providing the names, ages, and a brief description of their family members. We finished the evening with an introduction to -er verbs. During our next session we will look at these more thoroughly."
"Today's session was a review of all areas already covered in the student's Spanish class. Together, we worked on learning the difference between the verbs Ser and Estar and using sentences to create examples. Through creating sentence examples, I was able to see whether the student is understanding the lesson so far. We worked on greeting vocabulary and practiced with each other. I have let him know that we will be using these words every day until he has become familiar with them and feels comfortable using them. He seems to be having slight issues with telling time, but with practice every day, he will get in the hang of it. I suggested he download a language app and practice his Spanish every day for at least 5-10 minutes to help him learn new vocabulary. I also recommended different websites to help him with vocabulary, verbs, and other areas."
"We covered basic greetings, days of the week, numbers, seasons, and other vocabulary and expressions. The student was engaged. To aid her pronunciation, I advised a spelling technique that would greatly improve her speaking. She retained most of the information, and I'm confident she will do well with extra effort."
"We covered basic nouns and adjectives as well as the masculine and feminine and plural forms. We also reviewed active versus passive verbs. We went over conjugating verbs in the present tense as well."
