Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed the lecture notes from his class. We also completed several homework problems involving reaction mechanisms, experimental design, and resident structures. We reviewed the structure and function of biochemical co-enzymes and the electron transfer reactions they catalyze."
"During this session, we created another study schedule for the student. This time, we planned out when and what he should study in order to prepare him for his comprehensive chemistry exam at the end of the year. It is important that he incorporates active learning (doing a problem or two, making flashcards, etc.) into his review. We also worked on some physics homework that covered different types of waves. We largely discussed the electromagnetic spectrum and sound waves. We explored the relationship between the intensity or amplitude of sound waves and the perceived loudness of the sound."
"In today's session, the student and I covered his review material on gas laws and thermochemistry. We went over a ton of a problems and he definitely was able to understand the concepts better towards the end of the session. I think he will need to practice more on his own to memorize it, but I know he understands the principle. He is a pleasure to work with and I look forward to continue working with him."
"As a culmination of the past few sessions we have done, the student and I decided to have this session represent a full day of practice problems. Using the practice problem section of the lesson space, the student and I worked through a large amount of practice problems that incorporated cell function, cellular respiration, and macro molecules."
"During this session, we covered mostly DNA replication and transcription. The student is very intelligent and obviously a very good student; the volume of information present and the pace of the course appear to be the main trouble factors. I went over her professor's notes with her and tried to explain each concept as it was presented. We also tried to figure out strategies to ease the burden of memorization. I also looked over a couple of old tests to see where she was struggling. I suggested creating outlines from the most pertinent information from the relevant chapter readings. In the future, I hope to have some outlines ready for her and to prepare practice problems. I believe that having someone with whom to look over the material will be greatly beneficial to her, and I hope that her scores improve in her class."
"During this session, we reviewed for the final that the student will be taking tomorrow. She had a study guide quiz type of thing that we worked on together. For questions that she didn't know, we worked together to find the answer. Throughout this process, we talked about the questions and thoroughly discussed each question. We discussed possible topics to include on a piece of paper that she gets to bring into the test with her. We also talked about some testing strategies to help determine which answer would be the best answer."
