How can a Trigonometry tutor help you?

Trigonometry is the mathematical study of triangles. It sounds like a simple subject, but trigonometry introduces a variety of complex theorems and concepts that students can struggle to comprehend. Unfortunately, students cannot ignore the information they are being taught in trigonometry and hope it goes away. It doesn't. The fundamental elements of trigonometry will follow students throughout their educational careers, appearing in their future, more advanced math courses. That is why it's crucial that students develop a solid understanding of trigonometry early on. This can be a challenging feat for students to accomplish on their own. The good news is they don't have to tackle trigonometry alone. If your child is struggling in their trigonometry class, consider connecting them with a personal trigonometry tutor. They could help them overcome their learning obstacles and achieve their goals. Call Varsity Tutors' directors to find you a trigonometry tutor in Des Plaines who could help your child work to try to attain more confidence in trigonometry.

A skilled trigonometry tutor in Des Plaines, IL, can assess your child's abilities to try to help them perform their best in trigonometry. They are experts on the subject, and they have experience working with young students who struggle with math. Whether your child is having trouble with the Pythagorean theorem, or they need to review inverse trigonometric functions, a personal trigonometry tutor can be a great resource. They'll help your child learn the meanings of terms like secant, hypotenuse, tangent, and cofunction, so that next time your child goes to class, they feel ready to tackle the material.

Session Summaries by Trigonometry Tutors

Des Plaines, IL Trigonometry tutoring
The student's first trig proofs were assigned to her today! It was simply showing that cos and sin can be equal with a little transformation. I think she gets the proof concept pretty well. There were a few tricks involving factoring a "-1" from things. That sort of math trickery is something I think the student understands easily when explained.

The student informed me that he had a test. He wanted to work on graphing trigonometric functions and their translations. We covered the different types of translations/ transformations of the graphs of the trig functions and how to identify each type of transformation.

This was our first meeting. We reviewed previous material and went over questions on the most recent test. We covered rules of exponents, logs and natural log. We went over the new material for the next test this week: Trig functions and their graphs. We discussed the effect changes in different variables have on the functions and graphs.

We practiced more proofs using trig identities, focusing more on sum and difference formulas. I think the practice is helping the student to recognize which identities to use and how and where to use them. Instead of just simply applying the formulas we worked on recognizing forms to substitute when solving equations. He had some difficulty when an angle was expressed in terms of other variables, but after a few practice problems he started to catch on. We need to work more on these type of problems, though. We also need to work on his familiarity with the unit circle, especially the values of sine and cosine in the 4 quadrants.

Des Plaines, IL Trigonometry tutoring
The student and I primarily worked on domain and range. She found this concept difficult to grasp. Understandably so, it's not intuitive at first. We spent about an hour on different examples of graphs (from her review as well graphs I made up) making sure she got practice working out domain and range. I tried to encourage her to think about domain as "the x values that cause the function to return some y" and the range as "the max and min y values." We also touched upon some mathematical notation, inverse functions, and composition of functions. I gave her my email so she could contact me with any questions before her exam. Even though I think she still feels shaky on domain/range, I think she feels better than when she started.
