Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student did well in recognizing the acids and bases as well as in understanding the K equations. It seemed that she had a solid hold in nearly all the concepts she would be tested on so we ended early. I suggested that she go over the concepts over the next few days to make sure she would be absolutely prepared."
"The student reviewed for his upcoming chemistry test with me today by doing many practice problems on every topic covered on the test. We had some excess time left after reviewing so we did some SAT practice problems."
"This was a very exciting week for me! I am always excited to explore new topics with the student and chemistry. We began by modeling various organic, covalently bonded molecules and how to estimate their structure based on names or chemical formulas. We utilized the periodic table and the octet rule. This coming week he will be beginning the unit of resonance. We discussed how to estimate where double bonds will form, where the charged functional groups will appear, and how to model the multiple structures. We also discussed extended conjugated systems. I will be preparing a mini-quiz for him for our next session on resonance."
"We went through her Chemistry homework on balancing chemical equations. She does very well balancing the equations if given the chemical formulas."
"The student has a quiz/test coming up over atomic models and quantum numbers. She already had a review sheet filled out so we ended up using that as a guide to answer specific questions. I did review how to write out the electron configuration for atoms and the 3 related principles."
"The student got an A on her chemistry exam and hasn't started any new material, so we focused on geometry for the session. We did some practice problems where she had to find all of the sides, altitude, and angles of triangles starting with just two of the numbers. By being able to accomplish this, she gained understanding in being able to find any unknown in a triangle, and would be able to answer any of the test questions."
"We went over acid base reactions and polyatomic ions. He has a good attitude. We went over study strategies for the exam and high yield information he should review before his test. I left him with questions to review. No concerns."
"The student and I reviewed Chapters 6,7,and 11 for exam #1 Concepts of thermochemistry, quantum theory, and solutions chemistry. We reviewed basic equations for all topics and wrote down the important equations he should write on his note card and commit to memory."
"The student and I worked through review problems in preparation for her test. We decided to focus on the most difficult problems from the review, rather than trying to complete the whole thing. She has a good understanding of the current course material, with the exception of one challenging concept. She will be prepared for the test after additional review of this concept."
"Today, the student and I covered Lewis dot diagrams. We covered a variety of different kinds of problems and discussed strategies for solving them. She definitely improved over the course of the session and was able to correctly identify and solve the different scenarios independently by the end. She has a quiz this week over the material and will look at scheduling her next session next week."
"We did a review session today reviewing solubility reactions with solubility constant, acid/base reaction, redox reactions, thermodynamics and kinetics. The student's attitude was great. She was focused and knew exactly what she wanted to review. She took a quiz last week on acid/base equilibrium and got a 45/50, which made her very happy."
"We went through his algebra questions first. They were 8 questions about converting the quadratic equations to vertex format. He was able to do them by himself. Then we went through stoichiometry in chemistry. We solved about 12 questions. We covered mole calculations, % yield, and gram calculations. He understood how to solve them and he is doing well."
