Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we went over the student's diagnostic test. We discussed what her diagnostic score means, what specific areas she can improve most on, and reviewed all of the questions she answered incorrectly. We also made a plan to split our time before the test into three sections. We will start with Reading, then Science, and then English. Since her Math scores are already fairly high, I will give her Math homework and review it, but we will focus our time together on the other three subjects."
"First, we worked on more English section strategies. We then moved on to discussing combinations and permutations. We finished by working on a timed Science section. Her test is on Feb 7th so we are really honing in on timing."
"The student is making progress with Polynomials (Volumes, Perimeters, and Areas), Point-Slope Form (Standard Coordinate Plane Graphing Formulas, and Calculations), and Functions (conversions from G(x) to F(x)). The homework is to complete Science Diagnostic #1 for tomorrow. Reading would be extra credit, as we will begin that tomorrow or review Thursday."
"This was my first session with the student. We met and discussed overall goals with him and his father. We met again later in the day. We focused mostly on English grammar, proper usage of tense and verb form, as well as science passages. I really tried to show him that you can have a very limited background of the science that is discussed in the passages, as long as you understand the graphs and questions being presented."
"Reviewed math concepts from last session; practiced sections in math, critical reading, science, & English. The student held on to the math concepts pretty well, so I'm going to continue reviewing that way."
"We continued our focus on Reading. We finished a practice test, did the ACT's benchmark test, which did run into errors, but nothing major, and did a natural science passage on dreams. We will keep working on the material."
