Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today's session was used to review the catabolism of amino acids, as well as how amino acids are synthesized in the body. We looked at the amino acid families and how they are biochemically synthesized from one another. We also were able to talk about how nucleotides and heme groups are metabolized in the body. We finished the session by looking at the review questions presented in the book, as well as what key enzymes and co-factors are found in amino acid metabolism. The student and I will have an opportunity to review this material in the future when his online homework is available. My goal with these concepts is to make sure that he understands the process of nitrogen fixation and nitrogen elimination, as well as how specific amino acids can be made by specific intermediates in cellular respiration. We will continue with our review of class material next Thursday."
"On Thursday with the student, we worked on her atmospheric sciences term project. It is an elaborate project that involves drawing and scanning in weather symbols, using online weather databases to find radar readouts from specific dates, collecting 19 days of weather from a database, making 4 different plots in excel, and writing a 2-page paper about why 3/20 days were deemed "interesting" and what weather patterns (cold fronts etc.) made it that way."
"The student and I went over a practice test that he had done in class, which was a great study guide. We want to continue to go over energetics and acid/base chemistry in more detail, hopefully next week. We are also going to get more practice tests from his teacher."
