Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed math concepts relating to the tangent circle theorem and postulates. This included evaluating tangent rules and using parts of information to complete unknown aspects of a figure."
"We covered graphing of logarithmic and exponential functions. We also reviewed transformations, x and y intercept, domain, range, and asymptotes of each function."
"She had a quiz to prepare for, which is on proofs with parallel lines. We did the assigned review problems, as well as some other problems from her textbook to help her prepare for the quiz. She is much more confident with parallel lines than with triangles, and so the review problems were pretty easy for her to do. I think she will do well on her quiz."
"Today, we focused on reviewing how to move the decimal place when multiply or dividing by 10, 100, etc., and .1, .01. etc. I really wanted to focus on comprehension. By utilizing the Socratic method, we were able to create notes that broke down how to solve these equations step by step."
"The student and I worked on fractions. He does not seem to understand the entire concept (part vs. whole). While helping him review his homework, I reworded some of the problems and tried to create a visual process for him, and he was able to gain the concept. We also reviewed a worksheet covering equivalent fractions. Again, creating a visual and using think-alouds seemed to work well. By the end of the session, he was able to demonstrate independence."
"The student and I went over math homework problems that were marked wrong. We went over how to solve them correctly. His attitude is very positive towards the work that we do together. I left him with extra practice for multiplication activities. He seemed very eager to practice his multiplication facts and to play a competitive game with his mom. We also went over some reading. I asked him some comprehension questions about the chapter that he had to read for homework. He was able to answer most of the questions. The questions that he was not able to answer we talked about the answer. I gave him some strategies to reading and using his text to help him answer questions. We did go through a reading folder that was a bit messy and organized that for him. Organization seems to really reflect back on how he is doing in each subject."
