Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed for his chapter 9 test tomorrow. We got through about half of the review packet and he seems to have a pretty good grasp on the concepts. He needs to continue going to the rest of the packet tonight, which I told him before I left."
"Today, we covered identifying asymptotes and holes and then graphing rational expressions. The student didn't remember how to graph y=mx+b so we had to back track a little."
"We went through her homework. It was about exponential functions and logs. I explained to her how she has to use different properties to solve each question. She understood them and she was able to solve them by herself. We solved almost 20 questions She is doing great."
"The student had a worksheet full of difficult exponent expressions to simplify, and they hadn't gone over the exponent laws in class. I went through them with her, and showed how the book was teaching them. She struggled with them, but the more she did the easier it got. She especially improved in using negative exponents."
"Today's session began with the student and I taking a look at his most recent quiz. We worked through the problems he got incorrect, and discussed the simple errors he made. The rest of the session focused on solving rational equations. We worked on a worksheet from his teacher, which was only 11 problems. I did notice that he started to see patterns as we practiced solving the equations. He needs to work on organizing his work on paper and in his head."
"Today we dove into standard deviations and variance in statistics. The student did not seem to struggle with the concept of standard deviations, but did have a little difficulty applying the 68-95-99.7 theory to histograms. He completed a large majority of his homework, while I answered any questions and cleared up any problems that he had. I noticed that on his last homework, he scored a 14/14 so I am happy to see the progress he has been making. I believe he took a lot away from this session, and is retaining prior information from last session as well."
