Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, we worked on a review of the student's statistics homework sets. The first set required the use of Excel to solve problems with many terms. We went through a sample Excel file for the student to use and refer to. We went through how to do the problems the student has to turn in for the second homework set, too."
"The student and I spent a considerable amount of time going over her comprehensive test and focused on learning how to multiply polynomials and exponents, slope and rate of change, calculating solutions for quadratic equations, and functions. The student does learn the material pretty quickly but needs considerable amount of practice to make the information stick. I agreed with the student's parents that giving her a weekly test would be beneficial. We will continue to work on this next session."
"Today we covered practice problems for the student's final exam. She performed well on recent topics, like matrices, but needed additional review on logarithms and systems of equations. Through her study guide and additional practice problems, she gained confidence in solving them and is prepared for her test."
"Tonight we worked on some practice/review problems from an old AP test in preparation for the class taking the AP test next Thursday. She did great, needed to review a few older topics, and has all of her work done ahead of the next session!"
"We started on unit conversions and conversion factors. Converting units involves writing the conversion factor in such a way so that the units we are starting from will cancel in the calculation, and will leave behind the desired unit. The principal applies to any kind of quantity (lengths, volumes, time units, etc.). We also covered areas and volumes some more, particularly calculating "exact" areas, in which we do not write any approximations or rounded values."
"The student and I almost completed the elementary algebra packet today. She did a very good job, and picked up on our lessons very quickly. We need to finish working through the application section, and we can move on to the third packet."
