Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Aspects of 2D integrals have been discussed. We covered the problems concerning geometric interpretation of 2D integrals (volume under curved surfaces), change of variable in order to describe the integral region, computation of Jacobian associated to the changes of variables, Gauss-Green theorem applied to convert 2D integrals into 1D integrals, and computing averages and centroids. When applying Gauss-Green formula, it is crucial to ensure that the integral goes around the integral region only once."
"Today, we completed more practice tests to prepare the student for her upcoming ISEE test. The student showed great improvement. Her timing has also much improved!"
"Today, the student and I worked on basic and implicit differentiation, and basic applications of the derivative. She was doing well; she just sometimes missed small details, and used the hard way to solve the problems. She participated and solved the problems efficiently, and her attitude is improving. I tried from time to time to get her involved in problem solving to be sure that she understand the material."
"We covered sections 4.6 and 4.7 in the textbook. Sections included limits and optimization. The student did well with optimization, which was new material."
"We continued with the student's review sheet and covered separation of variables, Taylor polynomials, and implicit differentiation, among other things. He seems to have a decent handle on the material and just needs a little help here and there to put all the pieces together."
"Today, we covered section 7.2--integration by u-substitution. The student shows improvement in his understanding in this topic, and he is ready to do the homework problems. We also went over the u-substitutions to definite integrals. We will meet at the next session and see how he masters this material and then move onto 7.3."
