Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, the student and I discussed all of his homework and then spent the remaining time focusing on math. I gave him some practice problems in areas where I felt he had the most trouble and in areas where he said he has trouble. I gave him some tips for these types of problems, and I think it was helpful for him to be able to focus on trying to understand how to do something through repetition of those problems, rather than trying to simply get through what the homework of the day requires him to know."
"The student has a test consisting of 2 long proofs. We tried to do as many complicated and long proofs as possible to prepare her for the multi-step proofs that would be on her test. I gave her some helpful tips in case she gets a proof that she doesn't know how to approach. I told her if she's not sure how to begin just start somewhere. I noticed that she can usually figure the proof out after a few steps. The first few are more difficult for her. I explained that it's ok if you have a few extra steps in the beginning that you don't need, if she just starts proving things congruent, that will often reveal the rest of the proof. I think this will help her feel more comfortable starting the proofs, especially when she is unsure how to begin."
"Topics covered included simplifying rational expressions with fractions, solving word problems, dividing rational expressions, and simplifying rational expressions with square roots."
"We covered the chain rule. The student indicated that he was having some confusions on the chain rule and we did a set of problems that required used of the chain rule. He indicated that he was better equipped now to handle the concept and I left some practice problems for him to do, that we will go over the next session."
"We worked on a few problems from his homework assignment "Inscribed Angles" and completed his homework assignment "Circles in the Coordinate Plane". The student has completed his final in geometry. To finish the school year, he is studying circles and then probability."
"We discussed more advanced math principles, since the school year is coming to an end. The student did very well at accepting the new material and expanding upon it. We discussed graphing theories, linear equations, and rates of change. She was able to find patterns and thought hard about the problems she was working on. Really great session!"
